Mission City Church is a non-denominational Christian Church that has been gathering together since 1981. We believe Jesus Christ of Nazareth died for our sins, was risen after three days for our justification, currently reigns in glory as the King of kings at the right hand of the Father in heaven, and will come again to judge the living and the dead. We make sure the emphasis of our ministry is on the “gospel of grace” (Acts 20:24) about “the Lamb of God who has taken away the sins of the world” (John 1:30) and who “loves us with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3). We believe the proclamation of this Gospel to be the liberating power of God to a broken and sin-scarred world and central to the mission of Christ’s church!
The Gospel of Christ is emphasized in the songs we sing, the sermons we preach, and in the communion cup and bread we share every Sunday (a meal open to all who profess faith in Christ). We believe the Bible is inspired by the Holy Spirit and that Jesus is the key to understanding the Scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16; John 5:39). We believe a healthy approach toward doctrine to be the age old saying espoused by many leaders throughout church history, “In essentials unity, in nonessentials liberty, in all things love.”
We believe ‘the essentials of the faith’ to be well stated in the Apostles’ Creed. Beyond believing ‘the essentials of the faith’ we desire to fully embrace the abundant life Christ has given us (John 10:10). We believe that the Holy Spirit is continually at work through all the members of His church. This includes the Spirit producing in us fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). It also includes the Spirit’s work with miracles, signs, wonders, and spiritual gifts (Acts 2:22; 1 Corinthians 12). We seek to earnestly desire all the Lord has for us so we can minister with grace in our hearts to one another (1 Corinthians 14:2; Ephesians 3:7).
We regularly pray and believe for the Kingdom of God to break into our midst and bring spiritual, mental, and physical healing to our lives and the lives of those around us (Matthew 8:16-17). Ultimately, we seek to love each other and help lead people to a personal relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ and in the Holy Spirit. Looking to Jesus, knowing Jesus, abiding in Jesus, and loving Jesus is our ultimate purpose.
Apostles’ Creed:
The Apostles’ Creed has been embraced by Christians worldwide since around the second century as a short confession of the core truths of Christianity. Mission City Church also joins in with believers all across the world, cross denominationally, in sharing the convictions of this confession about our God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy universal church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
